About

Perstat is built by a small, senior team in Germany, on infrastructure spanning six continents.

The founder

Perstat is a product of Datargo GmbH, founded and led by Andreas Mallek. He has spent more than 25 years running internet infrastructure: he built and exited CertCenter, a certificate business, and serves as managing director of regfish, a domain registrar and hosting company that keeps other people’s infrastructure online for a living. He holds the CISSP, CCSP, and ISSAP certifications and works with an international network of operators and security practitioners.

That background shapes the product. Monitoring is an infrastructure promise, and infrastructure promises are kept by people who have carried a pager for decades.

The name

We wanted a name that was already true. Not a coined syllable, not a dropped vowel. A word that meant the thing before we attached it to a product.

Perstat is Latin. It is the third-person present of perstare: per-, an intensive prefix, joined to stare, to stand. Read on its own, it says the one thing you want a monitor to say. It holds. It stands firm. It endures.

Engineers will hear a second reading. The tools that report on a running system share a suffix: netstat, iostat, vmstat. There the -stat is short for statistics. A classicist hears endurance, an operator hears the command line, and both readings are correct.

The two are not a coincidence of spelling. Latin stare, and the English words status, state, and stable, descend from one ancient root for “to stand.” Perstare and the English persist are cousins from that root, not parent and child.

Seven letters, lowercase. A whole Latin word, not a coinage. We picked one that already meant what we needed, and left it alone.

We are deliberately small and deliberately honest. We do not list certificates we do not hold. We show every price on the page. Our post-mortem policy is published before our first public incident, and our own status page goes live with the public launch: Perstat runs on Perstat.
